Bret Weinstein's Demi-Urge Gnosis vs Jonathan Pageau's Pursuit of Relevant Pattern Levels

Part 2 of the Commentary on the Jonathan Pageau Bret Weinstein Conversation

Today's video is the second part of the commentary on the Jonathan Pageau Bret Weinstein conversation.

Both recognize the importance of "levels of analysis" What does that mean? It means that our reality is multi-layered and if you want to analyze which layer is relevant you're going to have to SEE multiple layers.

While this conversation between Rick Repetti and John Vervaeke focused mostly on "free will" there was a very good section about the relationship between science and levels of analysis in terms of causation.

It's at this point that the key difference of approach between Jonathan and Bret really starts to appear. Pageau's approach is more of a meta-system because he's looking at the interplay of levels in search of the causal relevance and response.

I noted earlier that Bret and Jonathan define "faith" differently, but for Jonathan "faith" has everything to do with the interplay of the levels.

As I'll go deeper into in the next commentary Bret majors on the level of genetics but believes THAT level is somewhere between a-moral and evil. Morality for him resides on the level of consciousness. This is why my buddy Sam noted that Bret's almost a gnostic.

The world as we inhabit it is some strange product of a genetic-demi-urge that wants to push its code into the future in an amoral or immoral way and it's up to us as conscious actors to stop it.

Not only is Bret Weinstein system gnostic in the sense that this world is the product of this lesser, evil demi-urge of the genes but he, and other evolutionary psychologists are revealing the key gnosis (knowledge) that unveils the evil designs of the demi-urge.

There is a pattern among us that the novelty and power of the newest discovery is seen as the MOST relevant in terms of the levels. Genetics has held this place in our collective imagination for a generation.

The new kid on the block these days is the hope of electroceuticals and the pioneering work of Michael Levin .

I will leave it to the biologists to suss out the relevance realizations between the levels of the genetic code and the electrical systems at the cellular level, but my point is that there is ALWAYS another level of analysis.

While Heather Heying tries to pull back or nuance Bret Weinstein 's application of his gnosis here this clip nicely illustrates the interplay of Bret's levels of analysis on the subject of rape and abortion.
