I'm not a Prophet I'm a Clinical Psychologist!
Jordan Peterson from Individual to Incorporated Principality
The @jordanbpeterson social media management team is shaking up the rather stable pattern of wave #2.
Google is no dummy in cultivating the attention of its "creators". Unlike many other platforms they sort of manipulate their creators with a huge amount of selected analytics. Looking at YT analytics can become sort of a drug itself.
Contemporary business ideology watches "rate of growth" and values it. My son was comparing the market valuation of Ford vs Tesla. It's all future biased.
My guess is that "Another 12 Rules for Life" is not the barnburner the original was. How will 13-24 really compete against 1-12?
So much of the wave #1 status rocket was fueled by conflict with Blue Church, both with and IN mass Blue Church media. Despite its decadence mass media remains tremendously powerful and nothing grabs attention like a fight.
An active YT channel with 4 million subs is not a thing to waste so the team seems to be trying to pump some new life in it. Shorts instead of just long form. Better thumbnails, etc. This is part of JBP Inc.
I'm not disparaging it. It's part of the package that often comes with scale. JBP Inc. has the resources to continue to develop the eco-system. The real question is focus.
The most telling interaction with @jordanbpeterson that HGM doesn't get is "I'm not a prophet, I'm a clinical psychologist!" which could be the title of a retrospective written a few years from now.
Can @jordanbpeterson 's brand of clinical psychology colonize social media? Dozens of interviews on my channel early on suggest that there is potential there. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYSXopxC8Z9uJtevXpjtLAupbvLWggN4b
There are, as you would expect, real tensions between JBP Inc. and "I'm not a prophet I'm a clinical psychologist". What are the missions of the man turned Youtube principality?
Throughout this fascinating phenomenon I've always thought that comparisons with Billy Graham were instructive. I suspect they will continue to be.
When "A wing & A prayer came out"- I sincerely thought he had gotten a sneak preview of your epic video "The Third Lobe Quartet: "If he's not going to Geppetto he's Going to Jonah" and picked Jonah since no donkey-eared boys showed up.
I would argue that most of the analysis and packaging of Peterson is based on this modern pop culture obsession with fame... This "real wives" reality show view of entertaining ourselves... This modern day narcissistic naval gazing by overly pampered citizens who don't have any thing real to focus their attention on.. so they create score cards for their favorite pop culture icons regardless of whether or not there's any substance there. This sort of view leads to very little difference between following Peterson or following the Kardashians.... Are they ascending or descending? Are they increasing in followers or decreasing? Are they selling more books or less books? All of this seems to miss the point. Or maybe I'm just of an age where I don't get it...
