Man Does Not Live by Evolutionary Biology Alone
But by Every Word that Proceeds from the Mouth of God
I am very much enjoying the @PageauJonathan @BretWeinstein conversation on Spotify
Lengthy commentary will wait for the Youtube release. Yet I want to draw some things together now.
As my friend Sam once pointed out to me @BretWeinstein 's "religion" is sort of a neo-gnostic believe that "below" there is a genetic demi-urge that is responsible for our genocidal nature motivated by the genes wanting to get themselves into the future.
From above there is the law of love that is more or less carried to us by the Judeo-Christian traditions. @BretWeinstein articulates this fairly well in the conversation and @PageauJonathan mostly agrees.
.@PageauJonathan wants to get at the source of the above for @BretWeinstein because that's sort of left between "love is self-evidentially good" and some handwaving about Bret's "culture" track.
.@PageauJonathan really has sort of a "natural law" argument by discerning patterns that isn't TOO far away from some of my thinking about Romans 1 and what Paul of Tarsus means by "natural".
Now let's bring in this revelatory conversation between Michael Levin and @TOEwithCurt
If you add this you really begin to see what @PageauJonathan is talking about illustrated in biology. Multi-cellular organisms ARE distributed intelligence systems.
This is where the work of @vervaeke_john is helpful and the larger conversation about what's going on in terms of the transjective (heaven and earth, emanation and emergence) is part of what @BretWeinstein is missing. Genetics is not enough.
This also connects with the @Freakoutery conversation for our larger systems "one level up".
Hopefully some more connects can be made here and some more "collective intelligence" can be achieved in this little corner of the Internet.
Although I'm often critical in my comments I would like to say that I get a lot out of you working through these ideas out loud.
Over the last few years I've noticed that often times your comments make me bristle and more often than not I don't know exactly why. I think I've discovered the reason. You my friend have a tendency to be a scientism smuggler just as Jordan Peterson is often accused of being a religious smuggler.
For some reason I get the feeling you desperately want to reconcile a scientific worldview with a religious worldview.... I'm happy to recognize the synergy where it can be found but one needs to be careful not to try to fit a round peg in a square hole.
