The Enchanted Springtime of Agentic Cognition, Above and Below
The Winter of Modernity is Ending and We are Seeing Signs of Life Everywhere We Look
Today's video is sort of a pre-amble to the big push afford perspective to the slew of @PageauJonathan he put in the pipeline last week.
.@hyonschu put out a little "hardest to grok" poll that I won/lost. @vervaeke_john also won/lost but @PageauJonathan wasn't far ahead/behind.
.@jordanbpeterson likes to point out that human beings are the most complex "things" you meet and @PageauJonathan and his ideas take some real work to penetrate. He has been disseminated a variety of ancient insights updating and applying them.
The fact that there is interesting overlap between @PageauJonathan and @vervaeke_john that holds both of them together is not a small thing and the longer #thislittlecorner of the Internet does what it does the more relevance we realize. :)
One of @PageauJonathan stock ideas is that there is a level of personhood/agency, principality if you would that runs both above us and below us. @vervaeke_john would call that "distributed cognition" above. Below? We're looking for a new cultural, cognitive grammar.
A few months ago @klwong43 and @GrimGriz were trying hard to get my attention with the work of Michael Levin. I glanced at it but was either too busy to listen or the timing wasn't right for me.
Levin is showing that what we biologically call "cognition" inside our brains is actually happening all around "us", at levels "beneath" "us" in some powerful and important ways.
This all looks suspiciously like the sort of thing @Freakoutery has been pointing out from above.
If you look at how @PageauJonathan describes faith to @BretWeinstein it assumes the same types of levels.
Recently @UnbelievableJB had a conversation between @glenscrivener and @BartEhrman
Ehrman made the point that people in the ancient world converted because they believed the Christian God did miracles.
Conversion is a complex transformation, but the structure remains the same. Listen to @MikhailaAleksis tell her story.
The winter of Enlightenment Modernity is ending. The river is thawing, and the ice is breaking up. Springtime is enchanting.
There is no personhood in Pageau's model... he doesn't anthropomorphize the powers and principalities... it is an important distinction...
