Trait Openness plus Religious Economic Constraint Yields Explosive Creative Production
Ponderings listening to @jordanbpeterson podcast with Randall Wallace
Listening to @jordanbpeterson convo with Randall Wallace. Thanks to all of you that recommended this one to me.
I like JBP doing the "life story convo" thing now.
One element that stands out is the interplay between someone with high trait openness coming from a family with either strict conservative religious background or financial struggle.
I've noticed before in religious communities the potent combination of constrictive religious or culture pressures on someone high in trait openness and creativity can produce great things. Think of it as intensifying opponent processing.
Too open in a too permissive culture and you're an unproductive jellyfish. Not enough creative openness in a constrictive culture and there isn't enough bottled energy for that explosive potential.
Constrictive religion was often a product of material depravity historically. It doesn't seem hard to imagine why religious communities afford an adaptive advantage to creative PRODUCTION.
I found with my own family that constrictive religious practices caused much resentment as my kids grew up, but-like you said, it produces creative production eventually. I just hope they are able to turn back to a more loving acceptance of faith in God some day.
