Two Worlds Mythology Mapped onto Upper and Lower Registers
Heaven/spirit/mind/eternity is above, Earth/flesh/matter/decay is below
Today's video is a continuation of the one I began on Wokeness attempting to transcend the physical realm.
This one doesn't have a click-bait title but is a shorter summary of some of my recent thought
In the "Wokeness" video I commented on Keith Wood's connection between wokeness and transhumanism. The ascendant implicit religion of the West is a pilgrimage in search of the Secret Sacred Self.
As George Yancey explained to @Sean_McDowell a lot of pastoral language has adjusted to the context by talking a lot about "the true self".
That's a nice theologically ambiguous move which can mean our Christian identity or the Secret Sacred Self.
The work of @PageauJonathan and @vervaeke_john tries to undo Cartesian dualism and unify our split existence. Pageau from above, Vervaeke from below. Splitness will not go away but we are going to be figuring out what we are trying to say with it.
The Bible describes us as the stuff of earth and the breath of God. I don't think there's a better way to describe what a human being is. The "two worlds mythology" mappings are inevitable because while we live in the age of decay God has placed eternity in our imaginations.
We have an upper register (heaven/spirit/mind/eternity) and a lower register (earth/flesh/matter/decay). Any moral claims or intuitions nearly always flip us to the upper register. I'll talk about that in tomorrow's video.
A lot of religion, philosophy and ethics are about negotiating these two registers. If you lose or fail to appreciate either register you lose humanity.
It is man's purpose to integrate these two worlds. There could be nothing more natural than to understand and integrate Heaven and Earth for a human... It is the scientific worldview that is ripping our souls apart with its dualism and it's ironic promise of enlightenment....
